I love clay. I love everything about it. So many challenges when building free-hand, throwing and pottery making, firing, firing techniques, glazes and testing with minerals of all kinds. The level of patience required is one that humbles the most stoic individual. Planning carefully for a successful end result only to open that kiln lid gently with a mindset to either prepare for the worst, expect the best or to be ready to try again without falter. When it works, its not just magic..its a lot of effort put into successful kiln firings. Maybe an offering to the kiln gods if you feel the need.
I was gifted my first kiln at the age of 12. Having pursued an interest in all things Art, I was given some clay from a local artist and immediately began going to work at age 9. Building armatures of newspaper and created my first figurines. Then came more elegant works of maids by a pond with small birds and lily pads. My ability grew from there. I found an outlet for my imagination that could not be contained. Borrowing ideas from nature, my imagination, Art galleries and shows.
Today I continue to learn and grow from my work, expanding upon what I know. I love trying new
methods and techniques. In past work I enjoyed the experimentation of discovering how to
recreate techniques that I could see in new Art. Now you simply look for an online class for a particular method and learn without quite the level of failure or frustration. Although, I prefer the older method without the immediate option of being shown a new technique. The discovery of it without the assistance can create new methods and results that only come from misadventures and failure.
Join me in exploring new Ceramic Art and my upcoming online classes, where yes, I will be sharing my breadth of knowledge so that others can learn from me without the mistakes..but maybe I'll leave much to your own imagination so you can transform my methods into something uniquely yours!
